IDG Honors Premier Organizations and Rising IT Leaders Driving Digital Innovation

FutureEdge 50 & Ones to Watch winners will be recognized at AGENDA20, IDG’s annual business leadership conference focused on digital disruption and emerging technologies

Boston, Mass. – December 16, 2019 – IDG’s CIO and the CIO Executive Council are proud to announce the 2020 FutureEdge 50 and Ones to Watch award winners [click-to-tweet]. The successor to the Digital Edge 50 awards, the FutureEdge 50 recognizes established IT initiatives driving business success as well as early-stage projects pursued for their watershed potential. The award honors the most cutting-edge trials and applications of emerging technologies, and the innovative cultures enabling them. Additionally, the Ones to Watch awards recognize IT leaders who demonstrate potential for C-level roles and responsibilities. Winners have a proven track record of success and routinely go above and beyond in delivering value to their organization.

FutureEdge 50
Over the past few years, digital business has become a necessity for organizations across all industries. According to the IDG 2019 Digital Business Survey, 91% of organizations have adopted, or have plans to adopt, a “digital-first” business strategy. Meanwhile, IDC predicts spending on digital transformation technologies and services will reach $1.97 trillion in the next three years. The FutureEdge 50 awards highlight the organizations harnessing emerging technologies to transform the customer experience, enhance worker productivity and much more.

“The organizations in the FutureEdge 50 are executing business solutions that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. For example, there’s a project using blockchain and quantum computing to establish trust; an indoor navigation system; and many uses of AI/ML for insights and efficiency,” said Anne McCrory, Group Vice President, Customer Experience and Operations, IDG Events, and the FutureEdge and AGENDA20 conference chair. “We are honored to showcase these innovations and many others as we enter into a new era of sophistication with cloud, devices and environments powering the technology-driven business.”

Ones to Watch
The Ones to Watch award spotlights rising technology leaders who have what it takes to become the strategic, C-level business technology executives of tomorrow. A panel of judges, recruited from the CIO Executive Council’s IT leader membership, carefully reviewed submissions and selected 50 technology professionals for this distinguished honor. These individuals possess an essential blend of communications and collaboration skills, as well as a keen understanding of business goals, that made them stand out as Ones to Watch winners.

“The role of CIOs and IT leaders in general continues to shift as these executives are asked to take a more proactive role in business and revenue-generating strategies, as well as company-wide efforts to enhance the overall customer experience,” noted Tim Scannell, Director of Strategic Content at the CIO Executive Council. “These expanded responsibilities demand new skills and approaches for applying technology solutions to business challenges. The Ones to Watch awards recognize individuals who exhibit the budding talent and expertise necessary to one day take the leadership helm as digital transformation continues to evolve from technology strategy to business mandate.”

AGENDA20
The FutureEdge 50 and Ones to Watch award winners will be honored at the AGENDA20 conference taking place March 23-25, 2020, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Each year, the event brings together 250+ senior IT leaders and business stakeholders to shed light on the latest business challenges and the most effective approaches and technologies used to solve them.

AGENDA20 will be centered around four key pillars – The Future of Work, The Future of AI-Driven Business, The Future of Clouds, and The Future of Info Security – and feature keynotes, case studies, breakout sessions, and interactive workshops led by industry experts. Also new in 2020, event partners can take advantage of exciting off-site networking opportunities such as deep-sea fishing, schooner charters, spirits and dining tours, iron chef competitions and much more.

“AGENDA is unlike any other conference in the market,” added Adam Dennison, SVP & General Manager, IDG Events and CIO Executive Council, and Publisher, CIO. “Whether an attendee’s area for improvement involves people, process, technology or vision, AGENDA will serve as the problem-solving platform and connect them with the right people to build their business for the future. In 2020, we’re excited to bring together our award winners, premier business partners and attendees to explore business technology solutions for a better future.”

Awards Recognize CEC Member Companies for Outstanding Security Initiatives

CIO Executive Council member companies are among the 50 recently selected as winners of the 2020 CSO50 Awards that recognize organizations and the individuals within them for security projects or initiative that demonstrate outstanding business value and thought leadership.

The CEC companies receiving the prestigious award include: Adobe Systems, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, NCR Corp., Prudential Financial and Skyworks Solutions.  Other organizations on the 2020 CSO50 winners list include: Peraton, Inc., BNY Mellon, Equifax, Brigham Young University and the St. Louis Cardinals.

More than 200 entries were received in the 2020 competition. Finalists and winners were selected by a panel of judges that included security leaders, industry experts and academics.

The CSO50 Awards were launched in 2013 by CSO.com, IDG’s award-winning online news and information site for enterprise security decision-makers.  Since that time the awards have acknowledged the accomplishments of hundreds of companies that have set new standards in security and security safeguards for the enterprise.

“The stakes could not be higher for security professionals, with cyberattacks continuing to attract board-level attention and cost organizations dearly in business disruption and reputational damage, among other costs,” said Amy Bennett, executive editor of CSO, in a press release.  “Our annual CSO50 Awards shine a light on security teams that take an innovative approach to enhancing their organization’s security posture and driving business results. This year’s winners represent an elite group of thought leaders in the security field and we are pleased to give them the recognition they deserve.”

The awards will be handed out in the presence of an audience of peers and colleagues at the 2020 CSO50 Conference + Awards, taking place April 27 – 29, 2020 at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 2020 CSO50 Conference + Awards will focus on “Bringing Risk into Focus” and feature innovation stories from the nation’s top security leaders. Winning projects and initiatives will be featured in sessions spanning important security topics such as: Access and Identity Management, Critical Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Data Loss Prevention and Recovery and IoT and Machine Learning.

“Our annual CSO50 Conference + Awards is the premier event for security executives to exchange ideas and best practices with peers,” noted Bob Bragdon, SVP/Publisher, CSO. “It’s an exclusive environment built for advancing the security conversation with education, discussion and networking.”

CIO & the CIO Executive Council Honor Digital Business Innovators

Honorees to be recognized at the AGENDA19 conference, bringing together 300+ senior technology leaders and business stakeholders to share best practices and explore new techniques

Boston, Mass. – December 10, 2018 – IDG’s CIO and the CIO Executive Council are pleased to announce the 2019 Digital Edge 50 and Ones to Watch award winners [click to tweet]. The Digital Edge award honors 50 organizations for executing digital transformation initiatives with significant, measurable business impact. Winners are selected by a panel of executive peers who evaluate projects on complexity, scale, outcomes and innovation. Additionally, the Ones to Watch Awards recognize the rising stars in IT – those primed to become the leading C-level executives of the future. All winners will be honored at the AGENDA19 conference in March 2019.

Digital Edge 50 Awards
According to IDG’s 2018 Digital Business Survey, 89% of organizations have plans to adopt a digital-first business model; however, only 44% have fully implemented this approach. The Digital Edge 50 Awards highlight the organizations at the forefront of digital transformation. These top organizations have harnessed emerging technologies to accelerate business while fostering a culture of collaboration. Seventeen industries are represented this year and technologies involved include: artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, virtual reality/augmented reality, cloud, data analytics, and mobile/smart devices.

“The Digital Edge 50 awards recognize the very best projects driving IT innovation,” said Anne McCrory, group vice president, customer experience and operations, events, and the Digital Edge and AGENDA19 conference chair. “While a digital first strategy is needed to transform business, unifying efforts to embrace the future is no easy task. Our 2019 honorees are leading by example, serving as key thought leaders in an increasingly competitive business environment.”

Ones to Watch Awards
In addition to the organizations being honored, 50 tech professionals have been named Ones to Watch award winners by CIO and the CIO Executive Council. The 2019 recipients have demonstrated a keen understanding of business goals, possessing the capabilities and character to be future leaders in the industry.

“As CIOs become more involved in corporatewide decisions and objectives, reliance on qualified and talented people within their IT organizations to manage key projects is critical to overall business success,” noted Tim Scannell, director of strategic content at the CIO Executive Council. “We are pleased to acknowledge the success of those individuals who have the right mix of technology and management skills to maintain continuity, drive innovation and lead solutions teams with the Ones to Watch Awards. Congratulations to the 2019 recipients and we look forward to celebrating their future successes.”

AGENDA19
All honorees will be recognized at AGENDA19, IDG’s annual business leadership conference focused on digital innovation. The 2019 event will be held March 18 – 20 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The conference will bring together 300+ senior technology leaders and business stakeholders, and feature keynote sessions, winner case studies, workshops and technology breakout sessions. The Awards Ceremony and Gala Celebration honoring the recipients of the Digital Edge 50 and the Ones to Watch Awards will conclude the conference on March 20, 2019.

Featured topics for AGENDA19 include: The Latest Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; Data Strategies: Insights, IoT and New Business Models; RPA and Robotics in the Enterprise; Blockchain Use Cases; Overcoming Roadblocks to Digital Maturity; Cultivating the Next Generation of Talent; and Innovative Leadership in a High Velocity Environment.

“AGENDA19 is the premier conference for business and technology leaders focused on driving business forward in changing times,” said Adam Dennison, SVP & General Manager, IDG Events and CIO Executive Council, and Publisher, CIO. “Emerging technologies and new solutions play an important role within digital business transformation. We are thrilled to have premium vendor partners joining us to provide a robust overview of what is possible for businesses in the future.”

Computerworld Names the 2018 Best Places to Work in IT

The 25th annual Best Places to Work in IT list ranks the top 100 work environments for technology professionals

Boston, Mass. – June 18, 2018 – IDG’s Computerworld – the leading technology media brand empowering enterprise users and their managers – is proud to announce the 2018 Best Places to Work in IT list (click to tweet). Each year, 100 organizations are selected based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training, and retention. To help determine the rankings, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT professionals focused on these key factors. Once the results are calculated, the winning organizations are broken down by size (large, midsize, small).

The organizations included in the 2018 list are heavily invested in their employees’ professional development and overall well-being. These businesses foster supportive and productive cultures, while providing the benefits and training programs that their employees value most. Topping this year’s list in the respective categories are Quicken Loans (large), Ultimate Software (midsize), and Cloud for Good (small).

“Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen a tight market for tech talent become even tighter,” said Computerworld executive editor Ken Mingis. “Computerworld’s 2018 Best Places to Work in IT list highlights that the companies offering the best working environments are not satisfied with rolling out one or two initiatives. They seek an edge in the talent marketplace through a combination of competitive salaries, great benefits, access to training, and the deployment of cutting-edge technologies.”

The Anatomy of a Winning Organization
Among the benefits that tech teams value most are health insurance, paid time off, 401(k)/403(b) plans or profit sharing, flexible hours, telecommuting, and bonuses. Best Places organizations understand this and have adjusted accordingly, with 100% offering health insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k)/403(b) plan; 99% providing flexible hours and telecommuting options, and 91% offering individual employee performance bonuses. Employees at these firms receive an average of 20 to 27 days of paid time off based on tenure.

To no surprise, employees place a high importance on their salary, with 97% of respondents listing fair compensation as an important aspect of their job. This sentiment is acknowledged by the Best Places organizations, as 90% have budgeted for salary increases for their tech staff for the current fiscal year. Furthermore, 82% of IT employees at the winning firms noted they were either “highly satisfied” or “satisfied” with their base salary.

Employee training is also a top priority shared by both organizations and staff. This is particularly significant as emerging technologies continue to shape the business landscape. According to IDG’s 2018 Digital Business research, third platform tools such as big data/analytics, mobile technology, and the cloud are driving digital success, ultimately leading to revenue growth for organizations. For IT professionals to progress and remain effective in their roles, they need to possess the latest skills and knowledge.

Specifically, 93% of employees stated that access to training and development programs is an “extremely important” aspect of their job. Best Places organizations clearly value their tech talent, as they spent an average of $1,940 per IT employee on training and offered those workers an average of 10 training days in the latest fiscal year. What’s more, 54% of the companies have plans to increase spending in this area next year. IT staffing numbers are expected to grow too, as 61% of organizations on the Best Places list plan to hire this year, with an average 10% staff increase expected.

These important programs and benefits have undoubtedly led to higher employee morale in the workplace, but workers also cited a host of less tangible factors that make their employers great, including accessible leaders, an emphasis on teamwork, policies that support work-life balance, and opportunities to give back to the community. Ninety-seven percent of employees reported they have a good relationship with their co-workers, 92% are proud to work for their organization, and 91% feel their organization is run ethically and honestly. It is evident that these organizations have created respectful and positive working environments where employees feel appreciated and fairly compensated for their efforts.

About the CIO 100 Awards
Recipients of this year’s CIO 100 Award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of external judges (many of them former CIOs) reviewed the applications in depth, looking for leading-edge IT practices and measurable results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges’ recommendations and selected the final 100.

About the CIO Hall of Fame Awards
The CIO Hall of Fame was first created in 1997 to spotlight 12 outstanding IT leaders who had significantly contributed to and profoundly influenced the IT discipline, the use of technology in business and the advancement of the CIO role. Ten years later, in 2007, CIO inducted its second class of honorees into the CIO Hall of Fame during CIO magazine’s 20th anniversary celebration. CIO continues to showcase this elite group of CIOs – now numbering 120 – during the CIO Hall of Fame induction ceremony. A list of all inductees can be viewed here.

2018 Digital Edge 50 Awards

Congratulations to the CIO Execuitve Council members who are recognized as Digital Edge 50 winners.

————————–

IDG Communications Announces Digital Edge 50 Awards Winners to Honor Organizations Excelling at Digital Transformation

Awards winners will share project insights and receive recognition at IDG’s AGENDA18 conference

Boston, Mass.—December 11, 2017—IDG’s AGENDA18 conference is excited to announce the 2018 Digital Edge 50 award winners. The award recognizes 50 organizations for digital transformation initiatives with significant, measurable business impact.  The 50 winners will be honored onsite at the AGENDA18 conference, March 19-21, 2018, in Miami, Florida.

Transforming into a digital business is a key area of focus for organizations, and tech leaders are putting strategies into practice. With more than 250 projects nominated for the 2018 awards, the judging process was extremely competitive. Winning projects used technology to drive business innovation and even launch new business units, both to serve new customer segments through an end-to-end digital experience and to commercialize non-competitive company innovations.  Technologies involved include artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, virtual reality/augmented reality, cloud, data analytics, and mobile/smart devices. Entries were judged by a panel of executive peers, including past winners, who evaluated projects on complexity, scale, business outcomes and innovation.

“This year we have many winners employing AI and machine learning, or a combination of the two, demonstrating how quickly those technologies are taking hold,” said Anne McCrory, Digital Edge program chair and Group VP, Customer Experience and Operations, IDG Events and CIO Executive Council. “There are projects on data accessibility, digital assistants, sensors, and integrating numerous systems and data types for mobile users. All have remarkable returns, whether those are efficiencies or sales from new capabilities or even new businesses launching.”

Executives from winning companies will join the speaker roster at the AGENDA18 conference. Confirmed speakers include:

Lisa Bowman, Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, United Way Worldwide
Karen Brunn, Vice President, Research, United Way Worldwide
